Rich Tuten has ceased to be amazed at the athleticism he's witnessed at Broncos training camp.
As the Broncos' strength and conditioning coach for eight seasons, he has seen a lot of prime-time athletes. Yet
when Tuten stops to think about it, there are some feats of strength, speed and physical ability that still leave a lasting
impression. Here are a few examples: - When it comes to the bench press, wide receiver Kevin Kasper
and linebacker Ian Gold stand out. Kasper weighs 195 pounds, and Gold about 220, but they both press more than 400 pounds.
- Kasper can jump out of the gym. According to Tuten, Kasper's vertical leap is 40-plus inches.
- Some Broncos are nearly fat free. "You have guys like (tight end) Shannon
Sharpe, who are somewhere in the 6-8 percent body fat range," Tuten said. "Kasper is in that same group. Those guys are all
very explosive and powerful, especially for their body weight. You can see, especially on their starts from the line of scrimmage,
how incredibly quick and powerful they are."
